Dear All
As we have just ‘recovered’ from the wonderful celebration of the National Day of Romania, here comes another invitation to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the final, irreversible collapse of communism.

The Polish students of Southampton University are inviting us to see ‘From Solidarity to Liberty’, an exhibition to commemorate the events of 1986 in Poland that had a domino effect on the rest of Eastern Europe.

Please join us for the official opening of the exhibition on the 7th of December at 5 pm in the Southampton University Students Club The Bridge (Building 42), Highfield Campus.

Also - on the 9th of December at 7 pm in the University Cinema you will have an opportunity to see a short film ‘The fall of the Empire’ - a very moving documentary of Poland’s final step out from behind the iron curtain that lead to the lasting victory in 1989.

We are very grateful to the Polish students of Southampton University for organizing the exhibition and the events that gives all Polish people in Southampton a chance to share with our adopted home-town the joy of our country’s liberation. We are very proud of our young people who - being raised in free Poland - are so committed to remember those to whom we owe such grateful thanks for the freedom that we all now enjoy.

And one more piece of great news. You probably remember that on the 20th of August 2008 I sent you a SAD ANNOUNCEMENT re: Southampton Gypsy Dancing Group and their exodus after some incidents of community tension and racial hate. So now comes the time for a HAPPY ANNOUNCEMENT: problems have been resolved, storms have calmed down, peace has been made – NEWE ROMA are back in Southampton. They are safe, happy, working, going to school, dancing, singing and – here comes the HAPPIEST ANNOUNCEMENT – one of the beautiful dancers of Newe Roma, Margarita is getting married. The great, traditional Gypsy wedding will take place this Saturday 5th of December. Please wish Margarita all blessings and happiness.

Kind regards

Barbara Storey
