My daughter is a Migrant Worker! This year she is living and working in Istanbul. I visited her last week and saw that she has the same challenges as people who come to England; the language, the culture, how to make friends,finding somewhere to live, how to access the Health Service, learning what is dangerous and what is ok, making sure your employer treats you properly! It's all the same!
EU Welcome is here to help you with those issues and more. This Wednesday we have our next cafe chat evening, and this Friday a walk around the historic part of Southampton with a talk in simple English. See 1) and 2) below for more details

1) Wednesday 11 June 'Let's talk About..' Informal café chat! 7.00pm at 'Sweet Tooth Cukierenka' 22 Bedford Place SO15 2BD. A chance to chat, practise your English, drink good coffee, eat cakes and meet new people. This is for people from all E.U. countries. Come along to find out more. 2) 'There is nothing interesting in Southampton!?' Find out about the City's links with The Titanic, World War 2, Jane Austen, The Pilgrim Fathers, the day blood was shed in the church and the plot againts the king! In June we are holding two walks around the City's medieval walls, and you will find out more about its amazing history. Friday 13 June at 7pm (with talk in simple English) and Sunday 22 June at 2pm (with Polish* translation) Both walks start from the Bargate (in association with Warner Goodman solicitors)

3) Need some advice or fancy a chat? Our next Advice Evening takes place on Friday 20 June from 6pm to 8pm We help people fill in forms and give information on benefits, work and housing issues plus anything else that is on your mind, and now we co-operate with the Polish* Psychologists' Club to be able to help people going through stressful times. We can offer advice on problems with children, teenagers, personal problems, coping with life on emigration, coping with stress at work, at home, at university / school, decision making etc. So come along to George Williams House, YMCA Building ,Cranbury Place SO14 0LG (near London Road and Inner Avenue )

8) Our friends at Freemantle Baptist Church invite you to a Barbecue in the church gardens (or inside if wet!!) on Sunday 29 June from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. All the family are invited and it is free!!! If you can come please let me know. It will be held at Freemantle Baptist Church, Testwood Road, Freemantle SO15 8RL

9) The Parent and Children's group at St Boniface Church, Shirley High Street happens each Tuesday morning. If you have children under 5, or know people who have, it is a great place to come. It runs from 10am, and is open to all Eastern European families.

* We have translation into Polish available at all of our meetings, but will always try to offer translation into other languages. Let us know if this is needed

If you live or work in the New Forest should be interested in the New Community Development Worker who has been appointed to work with ethnic minorities in the New Forest. Sayem Kabir is looking to make contacts with all Polish/Eastern European communities to promote community engagement and work with those who feel isolated living in the New Forest. He is hoping to help improve the services at the New Forest for all ethnic minorities, through the voices and opinions of the people themselves. Even if you are on your own, feeling lonely, stressed and have very little contact with people in the New Forest, and would like to speak to someone then contact Sayem.
